Devki

Devki is a name of Sanskrit origin, derived from the word "dev" which means "god" or "heavenly". It is primarily used as a female name and is often associated with Hindu culture. According to Hindu mythology, Devki was the mother of Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. She was married to Vasudeva, a king, but her father-in-law, King Kamsa, had a prophecy that her eighth child would kill him. Therefore, he imprisoned her and killed all of her newborns. When Devki became pregnant for the eighth time, she prayed to Lord Vishnu for mercy. He appeared before her and assured her that this time her son would be safe from Kamsa's wrath. True enough, when Krishna was born, he was transferred secretly by Vasudeva to his friend Nanda's wife Yashoda in the village of Gokula. Devki is also known as Maa Devki or Yashoda Maiya in some regions and is considered a revered figure among Hindus. She is often depicted as a devoted mother who faced adversity with courage and faith.
