Sun

The name Sun is of Chinese origin and is composed of two characters: "日" which means sun and "子" which means child or son. Therefore, the name Sun literally translates to "son of the sun". It is often used as a family name in China, but it can also be used as a given name. The history of the Sun surname dates back to ancient times when the Sun clan was one of the earliest families to settle in what is now known as Shandong province. The clan traced its lineage back to the legendary Yellow Emperor (Huangdi), who was said to have founded Chinese civilization. According to legend, the Yellow Emperor had a son named Wuwang, whose nickname was Ri ("sun"). When Wuwang became the ruler of Shandong after his father's death, he adopted Ri as his surname.
