Hisako is a Japanese given name for females. It is composed of two kanji characters, which are "hisashi" ( Broad ) and "ko" ( Child ). Therefore, the name Hisako means "Child of Broad". The name Hisako has been used in Japan for centuries and it was particularly popular during the Edo period (1603-1868). It is also worth noting that Hisako was the given name of Empress Dowager Shōken, who was the mother of Emperor Hirohito. Despite its traditional roots, Hisako remains a popular choice among Japanese parents today.
