Bakhita

Bakhita, of Sudanese origin, was born around 1869 and later became a renowned figure known for her resilience and strength of character. Originally named Mirtida, she was kidnapped into slavery at the age of eight. Despite her tragic circumstances, Bakhita refused to be defined by them. She eventually escaped captivity and found refuge with the Canossian Sisters in Italy. There, she converted to Catholicism and took the name Josephine Bakhita. Her remarkable life story is one of courage, faith, and triumph over adversity.
